s k y and s c h e d u l e s

While sitting in my room the other evening I could see a pink glow
seeping through the blinds.
When I peeked outside, the clouds were aglow with beautiful
shades of pink.

And the moon was gorgeous!

A day or two later we headed down to the water
to fly Binky's new dual-control kite.
There were a lot of sailboats out there!
How I wanted to be on one of them.

This is the new kite!
Binky is so excited about it.
He is quite good, too.
He told me his kite was really pretty up in the sky.

Here he is doing his thing.

We have been very busy.
Our lessons and groups and classes have begun
and I am just trying to get back into the
swing of things.
Goose is quite busy this fall.
Her schedule is as follows

US Constitution
Epidemics
Earth Science Group
Egypt
Writing Group
French
Algebra
Cooking classes
Library Book Club

Binky's schedule

Maritime and Tallships
Science class
Math
Writing
Engineering
US History
Martial Arts

Actually, seeing this in print kind of scares me!
It is a lot, isn't it?!
For many years I was one of those under-scheduling moms.
My kids had plenty of time to just be.
But now that they are older,
they have a lot more interests. So we are busy bees for now.
Besides, I like my job as chauffeur!!

Drawing and other stuff...

We have been pretty busy lately with lessons
and planning for the year.
Binky has been busy, too!

There has been a lot of drawing going on.
He has been giving his drawings away to
friends and anyone who will take one!

He wants to put them on
t-shirts next.
I think that is a great idea.
This is only a sample of his drawings.
I try to take pics of as many as I can because he
does love to give them away.

We've also started leaf collecting on our morning walks.
I love to look for leaves!
I usually come home with at least
10 or 15 leaves in my hand.
I just wish I could keep them all!

We have been eating lots of yummy soup this past week.
I made a pot of soup that lasted 4 days.
And each day it was better than the last!
I love to put parmesan on my vegetable soup.
What is your favorite soup to make at home?

Yesterday, we sat in the backyard and
made Autumn journals.
We used pretty printed paper and kraft cardstock.

This is the inside lining of Binky's journal.
He loves the crow.

Goose used this very cool spiderweb paper
to line her journal.

Binky started his journal with a list of things that
remind him of the season.
Things like crows cawing, apple pie and
squirrels eating nuts.

Goose made this title page to start her journal.

I can't wait to see what the kids have in store for their journals.
Have I mentioned this is my favorite season of the year?
It really is!  I just can't get enough of the falling leaves,
warm scarves and the long shadows.

So, now for some news!
My etsy shop is now open!
The name is Crochet Crowe.  I make crocheted scarves to
keep you warm and cozy!  I hope you will pop
over when you have the chance!

Thinking of Autumn

Autumn is on my mind!
My mother-in-law brought me a huge bag of apples
the other day and I have been baking pies like crazy!
The smell of an apple pie in the oven always makes me think of autumn.

I visited my favorite Botanical Garden yesterday.
It was just so beautiful.
The sky was so blue!
When I saw these leaves in oranges and reds, it made me smile!

This was my favorite spot!
A carpet of autumn leaves.

An Autumn poem to get you in the mood.

September
by Helen Hunt Jackson

The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.
The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusky pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.
The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow-nook;
And asters by the brookside
Make asters in the brook.
From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.
