Regolith covers the surface of the Moon. We even added a "sample" to our books!
We have been working on these books for a while now. We actually took a break from it because the kids were Mooned out! But now we are back in action! And ready to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the first Men on the Moon, which is Monday, July 20th at 02:56:15 Universal Time(which is the precise measure of time used as the basis for all civil and scientific timekeeping thoughout the world) which translates to 10:56:15 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Goose and Binky have really enjoyed making these books. And so have I! We are not finished yet, but the kids are inspired and that is what makes it so much fun! I will post a list of all the great books we've been reading as soon as I can. Lisa over at 5 Orange Potatoes has a great post on Moon lore and illusions here. Did you know NASA is planning to go back to the Moon and build a permanent base for scientific study? Or that the United Nations has an Office for Outer Space Affairs?

ReplyDeleteWe should do more lap books... it's such a great learning tool. We did one on the Civil War.
On Monday we are starting a unit on the solar system and space exploration!
ReplyDeleteI plan to use the "Race to the Moon" as an introduction to a brief study of the moon-which will lead into study of the solar system--and back to when & why humans wanted to travel to space in the first place!
Benjamin is very excited as we've been watching moon landing videos for weeks now on YouTube! LOL
That looks like such a fun way to learn about the moon. Your kids are learning so much!
