Owls

I LOVE these sketches!!

Goose is studying owls! We've seen some beautiful owls at the local zoo. I found an article about some burrowing owls here in the Bay Area, so Goose sent an email to the mayor's office asking the city to protect these wonderful birds. She made some adorable sketches of some of her favorite owls. I found an amazing book about a student who adopts an owl named wesley and falls in love with him. You can find it here. Goose read this book pretty quickly. She, too, fell in love with Wesley!

We also watched a great movie called Owl Cam: The Hidden World. This is a fantastic look at the day to day life of an owl family. Highly recommended!!!

We went looking for some more local burrowing owls at a park near our house. No luck yet, though. Next we will be reading some owl mythology and looking at owls in art.

Goose has been speding a lot of time at her sewing machine. She picked out some very pretty fabrics and an apron pattern with Grandma the other day. Then she went to the other Grandma's house and learned to cut and put together the pattern. She had a GREAT time!

Binky has discovered how much fun it is to ride his bike at the skatepark. Not to mention more painful when he falls! But he sucks it up and gets on again. He could stay there all day long!

Daddy always takes him so I haven't seen him on his bike yet. Seeing some of the scrapes and bruises he comes home with, I'm not sure I could handle it!

spring is near

While the kids were in their Wednesday classes, Daddy and I went for a walk in the surrounding neighborhood. It was a beautiful day! The sun was shining and it was in the 70s! There were signs of Spring everywhere!! Blossoms are blooming and bees are buzzing!!

It is supposed to rain all next week.

Spring is definitely on its way!

We've been making lots of valentines around here! We always make our own with stickers, markers and ribbon. I made this headband for Goose with velvet ribbon and felt hearts. So cute! Grandma is picking the kids up this afternoon and taking them home for the night. Daddy and I are having brunch tomorrow at our favorite place on the bay! Can't wait!

Daddy took the kids out of the house for a walk in the forest. They came home covered in mud! So you know they had fun!

They even had to remove a giant tree limb that fell in the road!

I stayed home and cleaned up.

Binky has set up this super hero battle the other day.

It is still going on in his room!

You can't walk around it, you have to go over his bed to say goodnight!

After reading "Evolution" by Joanna Cole, Binky made this drawing of rock strata fossils and we talked about the different layers and what fossils were found there. We looked at one of our own fossils from the Cretaceous period. Next we are going to draw the evolution of man! I found some great books at the library I will share with you after our trip to the library on Thursday.
